The
Sun Pharma Science Foundation invites nominations for its prestigious
Research Fellowships, designed to recognize and reward Indian scientists—both within the country and abroad—who have made significant contributions to
Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. These fellowships are an opportunity for scientists to gain recognition for their groundbreaking work and to receive a trophy, a citation, and a cash prize of
INR 2,50,000.
Scope of the Fellowships
The Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Fellowships are divided into two primary categories:
Medical Sciences and
Pharmaceutical Sciences.
I. Medical Sciences
The Medical Sciences category is further divided into:
a. Basic Research
This fellowship honors contributions that lead to fundamental advances in physical or biomedical sciences, which enhance the understanding and scope of Medical Sciences.
b. Clinical Research
This fellowship is awarded for work that improves understanding of human body functions, disease processes, and medical interventions. Eligible research includes:
- Studies on disease prevalence and intervention impacts.
- Advances in diagnosis, treatment, and patient care through new laboratory methodologies.
- Clinical evaluations of new and existing drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic tests.
II. Pharmaceutical Sciences
The Pharmaceutical Sciences category includes two key areas:
i. New Drug Discovery and Development
This fellowship recognizes contributions in:
- Designing and developing new drugs.
- Identifying new drug targets and characterizing receptors.
- Innovating novel drug delivery systems.
- Studying drug modes of action.
ii. Process Development and Applied Research
Outstanding achievements in molecular biology, biotechnology and fermentation. This would also include Applied Research in Pharmaceutical Science covering innovations
in the applied field with distinctive features in :
- Development of new process technology for commercial production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates or excipients.
- Development of Pharmaceutical dosage forms with improved stability and/or bioavailability.
- Development of standardized dosage forms through exploitation of rich natural resources
including from herbal sources and traditional systems drugs.
- Applied Research in the area of biotechnology/fermentation technology.
- Outstanding contributions in one or more areas of the above categories would be eligible for the Fellowship

Eligibility and Nomination Procedure
Eligibility:
The fellowships are open to
Indian nationals and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) scientists working in India or abroad. Nominations should be submitted through the
Sun Pharma Science Foundation's online portal.
Nomination Details:
To nominate a candidate, the following information must be submitted:
- Applicant’s Details: Name, date of birth, citizenship, designation, and contact information.
- Nominator’s Details: Name, designation, and contact information.
- Justification Letter: A signed letter from the nominator (up to 400 words) explaining why the candidate is deserving of the fellowship.
- Bio-data: A detailed bio-data of the applicant (up to 3000 words).
- Top 10 Papers: A list of the applicant's ten best papers with a brief explanation of the discoveries or contributions (up to 3000 words).
- Research Achievements: Details of research achievements and any previous fellowships received (up to 2000 words).
- Research Work for Fellowship: Comprehensive details of the research work for which the fellowship is being claimed, including references and illustrations (up to 6000 words).
- Relevant Publications: Copies of one or two key publications related to the research work.
- Statement of Originality: A signed statement from the applicant confirming that the research work has not received any previous fellowship and clearly indicating their contributions (up to 500 words).
- Citation: A summary of the research work (up to 250 words) signed by the nominator.
The nomination must be sponsored by the
Head of the Institute or a qualified reviewer familiar with the applicant's research work. The fellowship is a one-time award for a scientist's overall contribution, and repeat awards are not permitted.
- In regard to joint sponsorship for the Fellowship, the nominator is requested to check that the research work done by all the scientists is in the same scientific field and the contribution made by each of the scientists is clearly mentioned.
- Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Fellowships are not for a specific research topic of a scientist, but for the overall scientific contribution in his/her specialty, and therefore, the Fellowship will be considered as one time Fellowship for a scientist’s achievement. A scientist should not be considered for this Fellowship for a second time.
- The nominations will be reviewed by a Panel of Judges, consisting of eminent scientists in the fields of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Selection Process
Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of eminent scientists in the fields of
Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The awards will be presented by a distinguished scientist at a special ceremony.
